MDA is located on the 2nd floor of Arctic Wolf Ice Center at 400 Holleman Dr. We offer classes to ages 3 and up. With 30 years of dance experience, you will receive the finest instruction in the area. Classes at MDA include Ballet, Pointe, Tap, Jazz, Modern, Hip Hop, Drill Team Prep, Professional Cheerleader Prep and Competitive Teams.
At the age of 2, Christal Shurley began obtaining a foundation of basic dance principles in order to perfect her technique in the art of figure skating. Her participation in competitive skating awarded her several gold medals in the South East Regional finals.
Upon entering high school, she embarked on a career in drill team and dance choreography. Christal was appointed captain her Junior year, and was invited by 'Texas Monthly Talks' to appear in a televised performance and interview on PBS. During the next several years she was afforded opportunities to perform in France, Italy, Switzerland, Germany, Ireland, Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade and college bowl games. In December of 1995 Christal performed in the Neiman Marcus Christmas Parade televised on ABC. She began her student teaching career at age 15 in various studios and city organizations in Amarillo, Tyler and later in the Dallas and Houston areas.
While pursuing a dance degree at the University of North Texas, Christal continued additional training under the direction of Luba Petrosky, of the Kirov Ballet. During this time she was granted instruction with Broadway Dance Center in New York, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, L.A. Dance Force, Disney, Rockettes and Texas Ballet Theater. Performances the next few years include "The Nutcracker", "Romeo and Juliet", "Coppelia", "Bye-Bye Birdie", "South Pacific", "Oklahoma", and "Chicago".
Christal went on to become a Houston Texans Cheerleader finalist and began a choreography career for several Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders. Christal began her first Dance Company by the age of 24 in the Houston area. Later moving to the Dallas area she received multiple certifications for Pilates and personal training through National Academy of Sports Medicine and American Council on Exercise. She has been a choreographer and instructor for over 18 years now. She is married to an Army veteran and has 2 children.
